About Singpatong

History of Gym

Singpatong ( ร้อง patong) is a Traditional Thai Muay Thai training camp in Patong Beach Subdistrict, Kathu District, Phuket Province, Thailand. The camp is located on 4 Rai of land, has 2 rings, a training area, and a residence for fighters.

Founded in the 1971 by Professional Muay Thai Fighter Somsak Junlaka and is currently operated under the direction of head trainer Somnuk Patburee, who is known by many as Sit Noom Noi. Other notable trainers at the camp include; Sommart Phuongkong (Mart), Suriya Sahakaro (Ouan), Kawin Plaikhown (Yat), and Chatchai Panneam (Ead).

Currently the camp accepts on average 2-3 Thai Nationals every year to live and stay at the camp and to be trained by staff at Singpatong. Once accepted to the camp, the fighters must agree to participate in training sessions 2 times day, on Monday to Saturday from 7:00am to 10:00am and from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. This training regime is strictly followed by all fighters who wish to fight in Bangkok and train to become the best in Thailand and in the world. As seen by history of Singpatong and Sitnumnoi, the gym has produced many champions within Thailand and internationally, such as Tong Suk, Rung Anun, Pen Ake, Damien Alamos, and Joel Fischer.

A typical training session includes a 10 km run, (through a mountain range), sparring, clinching, 8 rounds in the ring with a trainer, shadow boxing, skipping, pushups, situps and stretching. This session is repeated two times a day.

Until recently the camp did not accept foreigner fighters to train under the name ‘Singpatong’ or ‘Sitnoomnoi’, however as popularity of Muay Thai has increased worldwide, the camp has begun accepting Professional Foreign Fighters who are serious about learning the traditional way of fighting, while living under the strict camp rules.

Today, Singpatong does allow foreigner tourists to come and train Thaiboxing for shorter periods, from one day to 6 months, however most stay outside the camp and do not fight under the gym name. The fighters and staff at Singpatong welcome foreign tourists and professional fighters to come and train at the gym. Those that do choose to come to join us at Singpatong will be treated as family and learned to fight the traditional Thai method of Muay Thai.
